Strong History results come from knowing more than the story. Pupils need to understand why events matter, judge evidence carefully, organise an argument and express it under pressure. Tuition is built around those transferable skills.
Good historical knowledge is more than a collection of facts. I help pupils connect events through causes, consequences, turning points and comparisons, so the subject becomes a coherent story that is easier to understand and remember.
Knowing the topic is only part of the task. We work on turning knowledge into a clear answer: selecting evidence, making a point, explaining why it matters and building a convincing line of argument rather than simply retelling events.
Source work becomes much easier when pupils understand what they are actually being asked to do. I teach a deliberate, repeatable approach to reading evidence, using contextual knowledge and making supported historical judgements.
Every pupil arrives with a different mixture of knowledge, confidence and technique. The point of one-to-one tuition is to identify what is actually limiting progress and work on that — not simply recreate a classroom for one person.
We begin with what the pupil can already do and work out what is genuinely limiting progress. That might be a gap in knowledge, uncertainty about source technique, difficulty structuring an argument or simply not knowing how to begin.
I make the thinking behind strong History work visible. Through explanation, modelling and worked examples, pupils can see how an experienced historian approaches a question instead of being left to infer what a good answer is supposed to look like.
The aim is not to create dependence on a tutor. It is to give pupils methods they can use on their own, so that planning, judging evidence, writing and revising become increasingly confident and self-directed.
